Connie's Trunks gives tired old trunks new life from the beautiful shores of Sebago Lake, Maine.

Antique Trunk #504 - Fantastic 1870s Large Excelsior Trunk with Brass Lock

This is such a rare trunk. Excelsior was a trunk manufacturing company located in Philadelphia, PA in 1870s. Their trunks were made with matched narrow oak slats over a pine body. The craftsmanship is such a treasure.

  1. The manufacturer's name is etched on the top front slat. It's slightly worn due to its location.

  2. The oak has a deep, rich color tone that's darker than most oak trunks.

  3. The matched oak slats are in fantastic condition.

  4. The hardware is original including the brass lock.

  5. Corner hardware is etched with a patent date of May 1 69.

  6. The brass lock looks great and lays nice and flat. Like a lot of trunks of this age, it does not have a key.

  7. The detailed, three rear hinges are original and are attached with nails featuring large brass nail heads.

  8. The leather replacement handles are from while the complimenting handle hardware is original. (As you see, they used two styles of cast iron handle hardware.)

  9. We replaced the leather lift located over the lift. The lift helps when opening the trunk.

  10. The manufacturer's name is also etched on the front and rear metal banding.

  1. The inside offers a great storage area.
