Connie's Trunks gives tired old trunks new life from the beautiful shores of Sebago Lake, Maine.

Antique Trunk #551 - 1880s Medium Size Metal Embossed Dome Top Trunk with Working Lock & Key

This metal embossed trunk is a unique combination of a few different metal patterns. The manufacturer created this special treasure chest. Its sure to be a conversation piece in any home.

Since dome top trunks were designed for the wealthier traveler, they always found themselves on the top of the pile of trunks for safe keeping. Working on this style of trunk is a first for us. (You’ll notice we included a before picture so you can compare the before and after look—what a difference!)

  1. The patterns are identified as herringbone, alligator, and maze.

  2. The lock works great and comes with a key. It is etched PAT JUL 9 72.

  3. The curved slats were steamed, formed, and dried to follow the contour of the dome top.

  4. The unique hasp/lock has a locking lever and is etched PAT NOV 30 89.

  5. The beautiful detailed hardware at the end of each slat is great condition.

  6. The sides are constructed using the herringbone pattern.

  1. The inside has been sanded and protected with a Tung oil mixture.

  2. The inside offers a medium size storage area.

  3. We replaced the missing lid stay.

This trunk measures 32 inches wide, 18 inches front to back, and approximately 18.5 inches tall.
