Connie's Trunks gives tired old trunks new life from the beautiful shores of Sebago Lake, Maine.

Antique Trunk #557 - Curved Top Civil War Era Trunk

Here's a beautiful, small early trunk. All the hardware is original and in great condition. The rich color tone and various size knots adds to its overall. This would be a great accent piece for a smaller location. This is simply a beautiful piece of history.

Originally the outside was covered with a thick felt/leatherette-like material. The inside was lined with a thin paper. We removed both coverings to expose its beauty.

  1. The built-in metal straps pass under the narrow wood slats and are attached with nails using brass button nail heads.

  2. The lock does not come with a key. The brass keyhole cover is original and in great condition. It really stands out against the black lock plate.

  3. The top has a slight curve.

  4. The delicate handle hardware is original.

  5. The replacement short leather straps and leather handles are from The straps help to keep the top secure since there is no key.

  6. The narrow hardwood slats are in great shape and are attached with nails capped with brass heads and contoured metal angle hardware at each end (simply beautiful).

  7. The bottom has four built-in rollers.

  1. We replaced the missing lid stay.

  2. The inside offers a storage area for special mementos.

The inside and outside if finished with a Tung oil mixture and then a light coat of satin polyurethane. The finish is nice and soft to the touch.
