Antique Trunk #643 - Charming Larkin Trunk with Deep Divided Tray and Working Eagle Lock with Key

This is such an exceptional piece of history . . . just beautiful! Someone took very good care of this trunk over the years. This is a popular size and style of trunk. Larkin was a soap manufacturing company located in Buffalo NY that expanded into manufacturing furniture. There's no way to identify the actual trunk manufacturer that made this for Larkin Commerce, but it's definitely a high-end, well-built trunk.

Larkin Soap was founded by J.D Larkin in 1875 and in 1912 Larkin Factories consisted of three million square feet. This trunk is so beautiful; all the hardware is original, including the antique key. The Larkin Label says "Factory 11."

  1. The top is almost flat, offering a nice useable surface.

  2. All the hardware is original. The protective front top and bottom finger hardware did a great job protecting the edges during travel.

  3. The Eagle lock works great and comes with a key. It is etched EAGLE LOCK CO. TERRYVILLE CT" with 2 patent dates: "PATD JUNE 13 1882 and DEC 6 1892."

  4. The hasps have built-in lifts to help open the trunk.

  5. The detailed slat hardware and the wraparound edge protective hardware are simply beautiful.

  6. The hardwood slats are in great condition.

  7. The leather handles are original along with the handle hardware. This handle hardware was designed to keep the top and body of the trunk securely attached during travel.

  8. The built-in metal straps pass under the hardwood slats.

  9. The bottom includes rollers.

  1. The deep, divided tray is original, offering versatility. This would make a great military shadow box display.

  2. Inside is a large storage area that is finished with satin polyurethane, so it's ready to use.

Both the outside and inside are a warm color tone. This trunk measures 32.5 inches wide, 19 inches front to back, and is 22.5 inches tall.

Our price includes insurance, packaging, and shipping to any of the 48 contiguous states. If you are west of the Mississippi, please add $50 to the price due to the trunk's size and weight.
