Antique Trunk #702

Beautifully Aged, Very Special Medium-Size Dome Top Trunk with Original Hardware

As you check out this beauty, you’ll see that it’s different from most dome top trunks. The differences make this a unique and rare trunk. Giving this trunk a new life was a real challenge, but we are so pleased with the result! Its rich brown wood tone and aged metal offer a stunning contrast.

Outside

  1. The dome top was finished off with a piece of veneer (a very thin piece of beautiful wood). Once this thin finish wood was heated to become pliable and bendable, it was attached to the dome top itself. It was protected with the original canvas covering so when we removed the deteriorated covering, we were very surprised and thrilled to see this beautiful unique wood grain look. Because it adds so much character to the trunk itself, we had no choice but to bring it back to life. We are very proud of the result.
  2. Also making this such a special trunk are the wide metal strips added for extra stability and eye appeal. It not only has two curved strips on the top, but two flat strips on the front and rear, and one on each side. The original side metal strips were beyond repair, so we replaced them with age appropriate metal.
  3. All the hardware is original. You’ll also notice that the top portion of the slat hardware is longer than most. The manufacturer wanted to be sure the slats were secure with extra protection for rough travel.
  4. The #2 crown top hasps are in great shape and work great.
  5. The fancy lock and lock plate helps to highlight the lock itself. It does not come with a key, but it does lie nice and flat. The lock is etched “PATD APRIL 15 1879.”
  6. The lift, located above the lock, is original and should be used when opening the trunk.
  7. The bottom corner hardware includes built-in rollers that help with mobility, empty or full.
  8. The replacement leather handles are from brettunsvillage.com, while the handle hardware is original.
  9. The three rear hinges are in great shape and larger than most.

Inside

  1. The inside offers a nice storage area.
